#GammaIS Professional

Hey guys! Hopefully everyone is having a good, successful semester. I know our schedules are hectic and overwhelming, sometimes making it hard for us to think about anything outside of homework, projects, and tests. Luckily we have Gamma as an escape time to be social, a connection to the industry, a support group, and a guide into our future careers. The professional development committee has worked hard this semester to bring some events your way to provide insight on how to thrive in the business world.

Speaking of such events, a few weeks ago we held an interview workshop. The goal of this event was to improve upon our interview skills using a different method than just a presentation. We attacked some of the most commonly asked and difficult to answer interview questions, such as: “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”, “How have you worked well in teams?”, or “How do you handle adversity?” Then, with each question we provided a few tips on how to prepare an answer. We asked the members to sit in small groups so that once the tips were given, they could share their responses with one another. This method encouraged the members to critique the answers. The committee got really positive feedback from this event because the members who attended said it was far more beneficial to have the event set up like a workshop. One can learn much more from their peers than they can reading off of a presentation.

The committee has held a few other events this semester that touched on topics like insurance basics, resume skills, and internships. The internship event, a repeat event from previous semesters, is valuable to members because they can listen to their brothers speak about their personal experiences, which can aid in making their own decisions. We plan on having some exciting and thought-provoking events in the near future. Hope to see you there.

With Gamma love,

Alex Adler

Director of Professional Development
